One gent and I had a pleasant exchange of PM's. I don't understand some guys fear of LCD's on the list. Pay $5-$50 depending on size of TV, repair it and sell it for $300-$400? Or just get a cheap LCD. I can then do a google search and see if there is likely some common problem. I might put in a local Ad to buy broken LCD's. One repair guy on the list, says us amateurs can't repair LCD's. You can almost use that info to trouble shoot the problem. There are several sites that list common problems. However for us electronically talented, a little google, a little looking and poking, some time, a few parts (often caps, just like tube radios) usually brings them back. That's why people toss them, repair is too much. Of course some 19" LCD's are on sale for $100 now. This is what I am talking about! I am going to start looking to buy (or dump find) inop LCD monitors or TV's. So you electronic guys-keep your eyes open ! Sure there are many more of these LCD's out there that can be repaired with a little patience and around $3 worth of parts. Just installed parts tonight and monitor works great ! This monitor also has internal audio capability. Researching this online, found another who had same problem which was corrected by replacing just these parts, so ordered two of the caps ( even though other "channel" fine ), and 2SC5707's to replace the 2SC5706's ( another hint found on-line ). Checked further and found that both SM power transistors in that circuit had dead shorts between all 3 pins. Pulled PS board again and carefully inspected-saw one "channel" of HV invertor for CCFL backlights had a "bulging" & split. Took it apart and PS 12V output was "pulsing" around 2.5 volts at that 1 Hz pace, no visible sign of cap failure, but replaced anyway-still "no go". Got it home and it also cleaned up very well-power led blinked about a 1 Hz rate & figured bad electrolytics again. Well, a couple weeks ago at work, they were carrying old CRT's, computers, & laser printers to the back room for recyclers to pick up-as they passed by my bench with a non-working 19" Optiquest "Q9" LCD, I quickly claimed it, thinking it would be another "easy" fix. I have also checked the connectivity of the monitors to the video card, though I have not replaced any cables or hardware.Posted awhile back about a 19" Sceptre LCD computer monitor I found in trash which cleaned up well & only needed new filter caps in PS-still working great.Īfter getting rid of "standby" CRT, thought I'd keep my eyes open for another LCD as a "spare". My ATI settings are pretty default, no ATI Overdrive or overclocking of anything. I have messed with the vertical sync a little bit, both on the ATI Catalyst Control Center and on the Starcraft options itself, the one on the Control Center doesn't seem to have much of an affect, however the Starcraft vsync option reduces the flickering, however I would prefer not to have this option enabled, and it still flickered/froze eventually. I have also installed the most recent ATI driver, and that hasn't solved it.

After googling for a bit, there was a suggestion about having too many things on one outlet, this may be the case for me and as of last night I recently added a small fan to the outlet to help cool the room, but once I thought of this I turned it off and the problem is still here, but I'm not sure if it needs to be unplugged. Hardware wise, everything's still the same.

Software wise, nothing has changed since before this problem (yesterday). I assume this is a video card problem also because since I have two monitors, if it was a monitor issue I imagine that only the faulty monitor would be flickering, instead of both. I checked the temperatures of both my video card and processor and they're both around 60 degrees celcius.

When I close SC2 the problem goes away, I assumed this was an overheating issue, but that's not the case. Processor: Intel i5-750 quad core 2.66ghz Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4770 (Driver Date: ) However, applying some silicon paste has resolved this relatively recent issue.

I assume that this is a video card related issue because when my video card was overheating, it had similar symptoms. As of today (this has never been a problem before), after I have Starcraft 2 open, both of my monitors will start to flicker and eventually leads to non stop flickering until vertical/horizontal bars come out and the audio/video both crash, leaving me to restart (the os/hardware seems to be still responsive/on however).
